Use the official pedestrian approach to the monument and check access for your date. A photograph from across an avenue and a visit beneath the arch are separate positions; do not cross the traffic circle to connect them.
For a portrait, keep the arch as a recognizable part of the background without insisting on perfect symmetry. An off-center composition from an appropriate pedestrian position can work without stepping into traffic.
Under the arch, be considerate of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and any ceremony or staff direction. Put the phone away when attention to the place is more appropriate than arranging another pose.

Follow the official Passage du Souvenir approach and current visitor directions. Do not cross the traffic circle for a photograph or an app unlock; respect any closure or barrier.
Does Étoile Symmetry require the same position as the preview?
No. The preview illustrates a generated creative direction. Complete the location check from within the supported area where access is permitted, then create your Memory later.
Does every Paris Landmark give me another welcome credit?
No. Your first GPS-verified Landmark unlock grants one welcome credit once per account. Other Landmark unlocks add places to your collection but do not repeat that initial grant.
