Presence first · everything else is optional
Be there. The rest follows.
Unlocked turns real visits into a travel Passport you keep. Here is the whole journey — from picking a Landmark to sharing the story — including what is free and what uses a credit.
- 01
Pick a Landmark.
Browse the collection for free — no account needed to look. Each destination has seven supported Landmarks in the app, and the web guides cover each place with photo advice and what to expect from the visit.
- 02
Go there in person.
Unlocked only rewards real visits. There is no check-in from the couch and no photo upload that pretends you went — the whole product starts with your physical presence.
- 03
Choose Unlock while you are there.
When you are inside the Landmark’s supported area, tap Unlock. The app takes one current location sample to verify your arrival. That is the only time location is used; nothing runs in the background.
- 04
Collect the badge.
A verified unlock permanently saves the Landmark’s illustrated badge to your Passport, with your visit date. If your first unlock is GPS-verified, it also grants a welcome credit for a future Memory.
- 05
Watch the Passport fill in.
My World keeps your badges, city-by-city progress, and visit dates. The collection is private by default; you decide later what, if anything, to share.
- 06
Create a Memory — only if you want to.
Each Landmark unlocks three curated photographic Experiences after a verified visit. Choose one, add an optional reference photo, and Unlocked creates a private generated Memory. It uses one credit and is always labeled as generated.
- 07
Share what you choose.
Passport cards, trip recaps, and an optional public Passport link are free. You pick the places and Memories that go out; new badges stay private until you add them, and the public link can be hidden anytime.
The free part
The Passport is free. Genuinely.

- Verifying visits and collecting illustrated badges
- Keeping badges, visit dates, and city progress in My World
- Sharing Passport cards, trip recaps, and an optional public link
No subscription, no ads, no account required to read the guides. Credits exist for one thing only: optional photo Memories. See pricing
Private by design
Your visit, your data.
Location is used once, at the moment you unlock. Reference photos and Memories are stored privately and never sold or published. There is no public feed to perform for — you share exactly what you choose, and you can delete any Memory, reference photo, or the entire account whenever you like.
Read the privacy policyCommon questions
Before your first unlock.
Does Unlocked track my location in the background?
No. A location sample is checked at the moment you choose Unlock at a supported Landmark, and only then. Unlocked does not follow your route or continuously track you between places.
What happens if I try to unlock from somewhere else?
The check confirms that your current location is inside that Landmark’s supported area. A photo of the place, a view from a distance, or a different spot in the city does not establish arrival — that is the point.
Is the unlock permanent?
Yes. Once the server verifies your visit, the badge and its date stay on your Passport permanently, and the Landmark’s Experiences stay available to you.
Do I have to create the Memory during the trip?
No. After the unlock you can create a Memory from anywhere, days or months later. Many people choose the Experience at the Landmark and create the Memory at home from their reference photos.
What does any of this cost?
Exploring, unlocking badges, and sharing your Passport are free — no subscription. Your first GPS-verified unlock includes a welcome credit, and extra credits for Memories are one-time in-app purchases. The pricing page has the details.
