Delhi by Metro: Old Delhi, the Avenue and the South
Cover Delhi by metro, auto and taxi across one long day: start on the lawns of India Gate at Kartavya Path, visit Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and its sarovar, then ride north to the Red Fort and Jama Masjid in Old Delhi. India Gate
Begin on the lawns of Kartavya Path, where Lutyens’ sandstone memorial arch rises above the canal and mown grass. Study the carved surfaces and vaulted underside from ground level and keep the surrounding roads and the separate National War Memorial precinct in mind. The lawns are public and at their calmest in the morning.

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib
Ride or drive to the white marble gurdwara east of Connaught Place. Walk the parikrama and the sarovar edge from permitted positions; head covering, shoes removed and modest dress are required, and photography is generally allowed in the open complex. Keep worshippers out of close framing and let the golden dome and pool carry the stop.

Red Fort
Take the metro north to Old Delhi for the Red Fort. Use the Lahori Gate approach, ramparts and garden axes from permitted visitor positions; the Archaeological Survey of India administers ticketed entry and the fort closes Mondays. Museum interiors and restricted rooms stay out of the visit; the sandstone bastions and moat are the frame.

Jama Masjid
Walk or ride a short auto hop to Jama Masjid, Shah Jahan’s 1656 congregational mosque. Cross the vast courtyard outside prayer gatherings with modest dress and shoes removed, and follow the posted camera rules. Keep worshippers out of close framing; the striped domes and minarets above the courtyard are the reason to climb here.

Humayun’s Tomb
Return south for Humayun’s Tomb, the first great garden-tomb of Mughal India. Follow the garden axes and water channels toward the red sandstone mausoleum with its white marble dome, without climbing the plinth or entering closed tombs. Ticketed ASI entry applies and photography is permitted in the gardens.

Qutub Minar
Finish at Mehrauli, where the 73-metre fluted minaret of 1193 rises above the ruins of the Qutb complex. Use the garden paths and ruin approaches, studying the carved bands and calligraphy from ground level. Ticketed ASI entry applies; the late-afternoon light gives the sandstone its warmest tone.
