The portrait is being asked to do a lot. Show the landmark clearly. Make you look good. Preserve the mood. Prove the journey was worthwhile. Become the picture you can send when someone asks how the trip went.
We think that is too much responsibility for one image. A visit can leave several different kinds of souvenir, and each can keep something of its own.
Unlocked starts with the place you actually reach. The successful landmark unlock and the Memory you may create later are separate steps. That distinction is part of why you can put the phone down during the visit: you do not need one perfect on-site portrait to carry everything home.
Let the original photograph keep what the camera saw
An original photo has a particular value. It records the scene that was in front of a camera at that instant. The composition may be awkward, but the image can preserve something you would not want to replace.
For an illustrative example, imagine a quick photograph at a landmark with part of your companion’s face outside the frame. It may be a poor formal portrait and still be the picture you love because of the expression you caught.
Keep that file. It does not need to compete with a more composed creative image. Unlocked is not a reason to discard ordinary photographs or stop recording moments that matter to you.
Let the unlock keep the connection to the place
At a supported Landmark, choose Unlock while you are nearby. The app checks your presence. Once the unlock succeeds, the place stays associated with your account after you leave.
That step matters because it comes before generation. The creative options open through a visit, rather than through selecting a destination you have never reached. You do not need a perfect photograph to complete the unlock, and an old photo does not replace the presence check.
The unlock cannot say whether you admired the building, felt moved, or had a good afternoon. Those things belong to your own experience. It keeps a more specific connection: you completed the landmark’s presence-based unlock while there.

Let the Memory be a creative souvenir
Later, you can choose an available Experience for the unlocked landmark. Each one offers a curated photographic direction. Provide a photo of yourself, review the required credits, and create a Memory.
A Memory is AI-created. It can offer a personal interpretation of the place without claiming to reproduce the exact scene from your visit. A successful unlock does not make every detail in the generated image historically accurate.
That is why we want the image described honestly when shared. “An AI-created Memory from the landmark I visited” gives it a clear place in the story. You can like it for its mood or composition while keeping the camera photographs that record the actual afternoon.
More Memories can be created from available Experiences with credits. You can choose among those possibilities back at the hotel, or leave them for after the trip.
Leave some of the visit outside the picture
You may remember a conversation better than a view. You may keep a ticket, write a line in a notebook, or only realize later which part of the day stayed with you. None of those requires a perfect portrait.
Our view is that a useful travel app should make room for this variety. It should not turn every landmark into a demand to produce one image that explains the whole experience.
When you stand in front of a place you came to see, let it be larger than its possible photograph. Complete the unlock if you want Unlocked’s creative options later. Take an ordinary picture if something calls for one. Then let yourself have parts of the visit that you simply enjoy, without trying to fit them into the frame.
