Most travel apps begin before the trip: lists, bookings, routes, recommendations. Others begin after it: folders full of photos, captions, and highlights. Unlocked begins at the instant a place becomes part of your own story.
That is why the first action is not “create.” It is arrive.
Presence changes the meaning
A photograph of a famous place is easy to find. A photograph tied to a day when you climbed the hill, missed the first bus, found the side entrance, and finally stepped into the light is something else.
Unlocked preserves that difference with a simple product rule:
Physical presence comes before the Landmark unlock. The unlock comes before the Experience. The Experience becomes a Memory.
When you choose to unlock a supported Landmark, the app sends a current location sample to the server. The server checks its age, accuracy, and distance from the Landmark. If you are close enough, the visit is permanently added to My World.
The camera can wait
The pressure to document a trip can quietly replace the trip itself. The best view becomes a queue for a photo. A meal becomes a lighting problem. A companion becomes the person holding the phone.
Unlocked is designed around a more generous sequence:
- Visit the Landmark.
- Unlock it while you are nearby.
- Look up and spend time there.
- Choose an Experience later.
- Keep the result beside the actual visit in My World.
The unlock is the small receipt that gives you permission to stop producing content in the moment.
Curated Experiences beat an empty box
An empty prompt box asks the traveler to become an art director. That can be fun, but it is not the experience we want at a Landmark.
Each Unlocked Experience is made for one place. Park Güell might offer the quiet of an empty park, the warmth of late light, or a graphic editorial treatment that responds to Gaudí’s geometry. The choices are legible because they begin with something the traveler already understands: how they want to remember the place.
The underlying photographic direction stays out of the interface. You choose the feeling; Unlocked handles the production details.
A passport, not a scoreboard
My World records cities, unlock dates, Landmark progress, and personal Memories. It deliberately leaves out the usual pressure mechanisms.
There are no leaderboards, public feeds, daily streaks, or points to grind. Travel is already full of reasons to hurry. Your private passport should not add another one.

The real souvenir is context
The generated image may be what you share. The context is what makes it worth keeping: this place, on this trip, reached by you.
That is the bet behind Unlocked. The most interesting future for travel photography is not an infinite supply of images. It is a smaller set of images with a reason to exist.
Your next Memory should begin with a pair of shoes, a street, and a destination—not a blinking cursor.
